This book is a comprehensive guide to the usage and syntax of the Business Process Execution Language for Web Services (BPEL4WS). Two major BPEL4WS servers, the Oracle BPEL Process Manager and Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 are covered in detail, and an overview of other major BPEL4WS servers is provided. The book contains practical examples on using BPEL4WS.

Web services provide the core functionality for distributed e-business applications using SOAP, WSDL and UDDI. These building blocks can then be orchestrated into a complete business process using BPEL4WS.

Web services provide the basic technical platform required for application interoperability. They do not, however, provide higher level control, such as which web services need to be invoked, which operations should be called and in what sequence. Nor do they provide ways to describe the semantics of interfaces, the workflows, or e-business processes. BPEL is the missing link to assemble and integrate web services into a real business process

BPEL4WS standardizes process automation between web services. This applies both within the enterprise, where BPEL4WS is used to integrate previously isolated systems, and between enterprises, where BPEL4WS enables easier and more effective integration with business partners.

In providing a standard descriptive structure BPEL4WS enables enterprises to define their business processes during the design phase. Wider business benefits can flow from this through business process optimization, reengineering, and the selection of most appropriate processes.

Supported by major vendors — including BEA, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Microsoft, Novell, Oracle, SAP, Sun, and others — BPEL4WS is becoming the accepted standard for business process management.

This book provides detailed coverage of BPEL4WS, its syntax, and where, and how, it is used. It begins with an overview of web services, showing both the foundation of, and need for, BPEL. The web services orchestration stack is explained, including standards such as WS-Security, WS-Coordination, WS-Transaction, WS-Addressing, and others. The BPEL language itself is explained in detail, with Code snippets and complete examples illustrating both its syntax and typical construction. Having covered BPEL itself, the book then goes on to show BPEL is used in context. by providing an overview of major BPEL4WS servers. It covers the Oracle BPEL Process Manager and Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 in detail, and shows how to write BPEL4WS solutions using these servers. –This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the Publisher
The book blends a broad architectural view with the detailed coverage of syntax and practical implementation required for working with BPEL This book covers the BPEL4WS standard and two BPEL4WS servers — the Oracle BPEL4WS Process Manager and Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004. It provides comprehensive coverage of the BPEL4WS syntax and shows how to use BPEL4WS by examples. The book prepares for the coverage of the BPEL4WS standard and servers with a chapter on the web services orchestration stack.

This book aimed at technical architects and developers in the technical design phase of advanced e-business solutions dealing with the issues of orchestration, transactions, coordination, and security. The book presumes knowledge of XML and web services (SOAP, WSDL, UDDI), Web services development (either on J2EE or .NET), and Multi-tier architectures. –This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Rather, it presents the C# programming language in a unique visual manner. The book uses three techniques to achieve this: concise text; tables that clarify and summarize language features; and frequent figures and diagrams. Each feature is also illustrated with concise, focused code samples.

The book starts with an overview of the .NET platform and the role played by C#, then quickly delves into the language. It covers the entire C# language, including new features added in C# 2.0 as well as the most complex topics. Its an ideal read if youre a migrating C++ or VB programmer who already knows how languages work.

Despite its titlewhich might give the impression that its a lightweight treatment of the languagethis book is anything but. With its clean visual format, youll be able to learn the material more quickly and retain it better than you would with a typical C# 2005 book. Even experienced programmers may come away from it with a deeper understanding of the language.

This book addresses the fundamental units of Windows and .NET programming – threads. A strong understanding of the role threads play in program execution, how multiple threads can interact in order to make efficient programs, and the pitfalls to beware of when developing multithreaded applications, are all core to a developer’s ability to develop effective C# programs. This book will cover how .NET applications are executed, the life cycle of a thread in .NET, how the .NET Framework uses threads, how threads work in an event-driven environment, how we can avoid race conditions and deadlocks, how the activity of multiple threads can be synchronized, and how to debug multithreaded applications. We finish it off by describing the creation of a multithreaded network application.
What is great about this book?

Threads are fundamental to the way GUI and server applications operate; if your code is running in a GUI, then you’re already writing code in a threaded environment. An ASP.NET page also runs in a threaded environment. This book aims to cover the tricky issues of threading in .NET, and particularly to do so from the perspective of C# developers. Threading is by nature not easy to grasp, but a necessary step towards mastery of programming for the .NET platform.

From the Publisher
This book is aimed at practicing c# developers who need to ensure that their applications can utilize the threading capabilities of the .NET Framework.

Volume 2 covers the applications of PHP in the real world including authentication & access control, XML, stats & tracking, caching data to improve performance, design techniques and design patterns. The chapter on Design Patterns is particularly unique as it teaches readers about common object architectures which can be used to solve common (though unique) problems.

In addition to being an excellent reference with over 60 customizable solutions, the book acts as an excellent primer for Object Orientated Programming. PHP 5 has now been released and has been given significant OOP features, which are a must-learn for PHP Developers.

All code in the book is backwards compatible with earlier versions of PHP.

Generating charts and graphs, converting HTML documents to PDF format—PHP is equipped to handle all of these, but coming up with the best implementation can be tricky! Now, instead of trawling through message boards and mailing lists for the answer, you can just crack open The PHP Anthology!

The PHP Anthology is a complete reference guide for any PHP developer –hobbyist or professional– to help you write better, faster and more secure code that solves common problems. The author, Harry Fuecks, has compiled over 100 best-practice solutions that any developer will find invaluable when building content management systems, intranets, shopping carts or anything else.

The first book in The PHP Anthology will show you how to:

- write truly portable code

- work with PHP’s Object Oriented Programming (OOP) features, without a computer science degree

- utilize MySQL’s little-known “FULLTEXT” search facility, repair MySQL tables, backup your database and avoid SQL injection attacks

- fetch files over a network using PHP’s FTP features, create zipped archives and gain access to the local file system

- validate and filter user submitted content, and avoid cross-site scripting hacks

- learn how to produce professional charts and graphs, and create thumbnails and watermark images

- send email using PHP, including HTML email with attachments and embedded images

- create search engine friendly URLs so your sites can get spidered

- create professional error handling routines

PHP is an open source Web-scripting language that has gaining steam in the development community, especially in the Apache Web server realm. With a syntax that draws heavily on C, PHP appeals to advanced programmers moving to the Web from traditional software development.

Web Application Development With PHP 4.0 isn’t your typical run-of-the-mill language tutorial. Authors Ratschiller and Gerken purposely designed its content to appeal to coders already proficient in PHP but in need of advanced programming techniques and high-level application development skills. Assuming a strong programming foundation, this book can be considered a next-level PHP tutorial.

Drawing on their own experience of what’s really important in PHP development, the authors dive into topics such as linked lists and associative arrays. They also weave topics like security and database access with software development issues such as three-tier architecture, versioning and program requirements. This balance makes for a nice fit for developers who have mastered the basics but are looking to hone their skills to move to the next level.

The book also goes into how to extend PHP by modifying its Zend language engine via the C source code. A companion CD-ROM includes PHP, MySQL, and Apache, as well as a number of utilities and the source code from the book. If you are already deep into PHP and want to graduate to guru status, this book’s for you. –Stephen W. Plain.

For courses in PHP.

As Web sites and intranets become larger and more complex, static HTML files hit their limits. They are hard to maintain and cannot be used for advanced Web-based applications like e-commerce systems or XML data processing. PHP is the right tool for anyone wanting to create highly sophisticated Web applications. This server-side scripting language is easy to use for novice Web developers. This book teaches students the advanced aspects of Web application development. They will learn how to write applications that provide real value, how to connect databases to the Web, use XML to layout data and make large Web sites easier to maintain. In the first part of Web Application Development with PHP 4.0 the authors explain PHPs advanced syntax like classes, recursive functions and variable variables. They present software development methodologies and coding conventions which are a must-know for industry quality products as well as to help making development faster and more productive. This part also covers many standard algorithms for tree-structures, string sorting and searching. Part two focuses on the concept of Web applications (as opposed to single scripts) and gives insight into user and session management, e-commerce systems, XML applications and WDDX. The third part of the book is for students who need to take PHP to the limit- it covers extending PHP with C functions, shows PHP4s great new features and tools, such as the debugger and optimizing compiler.
